Sweet n’Raw’s X’mas Shopping Guide: LADY BLOOM

lady bloom

Another day, another post! Today I have for you the second part of Sweet n’Raw’s Holiday Shopping Guide. Yesterday, the Francophile got amazing response from all of you and I sure hope that today’s personality gets the same treatment. As I told you before (also, if you didn’t read yesterday’s post), the gift  includes two selections: the pricey one (the splurge) and the affordable one (for us girls on a tight budget).

Today’s personality has two of my favorite things: she dresses like a lady and she is a sucker for flowers (even more so when she finds them printed on a pretty, flared dress). She is into ladylike silhouettes (pencil skirts, bubble dresses, cap sleeves, short jackets). She’s into soft and delicate fabrics (lace, crepe de chine and silk are favorites in her repertoire). She loves bows, she loves embroidery, she loves bold and dramatic colors (nothing tops a violet dress and a rouge pucker).  Her perfumes are spicy, but always on the floral side. She is into lively florals, it’s the Secret Garden all the way. So if you have a friend (or mother, or sister) that matches this description, this is the list you need to be looking out before venturing into tat X’mas shopping spree. Here she is: LADY BLOOM

splurge romantic

  1. Bikini set, Zimmermann
  2. Nail polish selection (Rose Renaissance, Violine Surrealiste, Beige Leger), YSL
  3. Lace jumper, Valentino
  4. Nude Oxfords,
  5. Jasmin Rouge perfume, Tom Ford
  6. Crystal ring, Bijoux Heart
  7. Lace & silk dress, Valentino
  8. Leather scented candle, Assouline
  9. Watersnake sunglasses, Linda Farrow
  10. Floral handbag, Valentino
  11. Crystal statement necklace, Bijoux Heart
  12. Carioca sandals, Charlotte Olympia

steal romantic

  1. Rose violet frame, Urban Outfitters
  2. Nail polish selection (She’s Pampered, I am strong, Lapiz of Luxury, Stylenomics), Essie
  3. Flower textured jumper, New Look
  4. Blue flower ring, Banana Republic
  5. Green statement necklace, Modcloth
  6. Summer Rose perfume, Stella McCartney
  7. Layer dress, BCBG
  8. Crochet doggy, Anne Claire Petit
  9. Glitter bow flats, Faith
  10. Gingerbread man bath & body, Philosophy
  11. T-bar sandals, Zara

I really hope this guide helps you find that special something for that special someone! Two down, a lot more to go! We even have something for the lads cooking in the oven, so be sure to check back!

Have a great day, the weekend is almost here!

Sweet kisses…

SWEET TROUBLE: Pink gets me high as a kite…

When it comes to pink nail polish, I admit it, I am a compulsive shopper. But I am not the cheese who stands alone in this one, I know that for sure (my sister is to nail polish, what Berlusconi is to Viagra).

How many times have you had to explain le boyfriend that the pink Dior is creamier than the Chanel one (even though they look almost the same) and that’s why you need them both.

How many times have you stood before the impressive nail polish line-up at drugstore aisle, trying to decide between barbie pink, candy pink or mauve. After a 30 minute deliberation (the security guard walking around you, eyeing you suspiciously, as a potential shoplifter means you’ve been in there for too long) you decide to take them all along with that neon pink that just caught your eye (even though you promised you would only buy one).

You feel the need to gift yourself Tom Ford’s Private Blend Nail Lacquer set this Christmas (click HERE if you wish to see it, at the risk of feeling greedier than Gollum). You are willing to pay 400 pounds for the box, only if the sales lady agrees to substitute the 16 shades inside with 16 bottles of Indian Pink.

You get your Essie parcel at home, only to discover you bought 15 shades of pink and one coral.

Your Instagram account could easily be mistaken for an OPI catalogue (the pinks and roses section, of course).

Does pink get you high as a kite? Is pink your favorite crayon? Yes, I’m kinda quoting Aerosmith.

If the answer’s yes, I rest my case.

A girl can never have too many bottles of pink nail polish.

Sweet kisses…

MFW COVERAGE: A wild and romantic ride…

I’m working at full speed here, after two weeks of forced absence (I’m still blaming you, stupid Fastweb). his is our third and last post from MFW and then my favorite part begins, Paris in its full glory. Milan has always been considered the glamour part of Fashion Week. Well-known and almost historic designers, not much innovation, but a lot of glitz. Making it in Milan as a newcomer is almost impossible, the line-up is already defined and there is not much room for that to change (that is until Donatella and Roberto decide to retire to their seaside mansions ). Agreeing with legendary Suzy Menkes, when the rest of the fashion world is in the middle of a digital revolution, you really need to step away from your traditional Italian style and step your the game. In a city where talent flows as a river does, that shouldn’t be a problem. Just give the young and unknown a chance.

EMILIO PUCCI

China was one of the major trends this Fall, Jason Wu and Proenza Schouler both did it and made it look damn good. For Spring 2013, Peter Dundas took us there again, but it wasn’t like Wu’s dynasty soldiers or PS’s chic Samurai. It was the year of the dragon, the sexy dragon that is. We are used to Pucci’s sensual ways, always in the form of bohemian styles and colorful prints, cut-outs and sheer panels. This year, they were all present but in a more subtle way. The color palette was unexpected: white, mint, cobalt, red and black. The fabrics were shiny and soft and the embroideries nothing but exquisite.

The show started out with white and beautifully layered ensembles. The sheerness was evident but at the same time so delicate and beautiful. That’s where we spotted the first oversize bomber, a garment so fresh and so crisp, ideal for Spring (here’s hoping that Zara will make a bunch of these, so I can buy’em all). Dundas rendition of the kimono was sexy and rad at the same time (God, this man really has some serious swag going on). Underneath his seasonal outerwear (my highlight of his collection), signature Pucci was all over the place: sheer inserts, skintight shapes, long and sexy dresses and printed silks. Accessories? It was all about the straps.

MARNI

A common mortal may not even realize Marni and its fabulousness has been around for ages. For a style savant, Marni’s show is one of the highlights of the whole fashion month. Best-known for the pretty,  geometric prints and nonchalant shapes, this season it was all about volume and structure. The show started out with a series of Marni printed looks, then there was the leather touch, then it went minimal with a pinch of Jacquard. The color palette was vast and the tailoring was right on point. As for her version of the peplum, dramatic and bold but that didn’t make it less beautiful. For the shoes, it’s ankle-strap also for Consuelo Castiglioni. We better start lunging and getting those pins ankle-strap ready.

ROBERTO CAVALLI

When it comes to Cavalli shows, I breathe in, breathe out and brace myself for some wild and over-the-top fashion. May I say that his Spring 2013 show (the first half at least), it was a candy feast to the eye. We are used to leather overdose and fringe and leopard print galore, this time it was not (thankfully). It was a wild and romantic ride: lace slipdresses, silk maxi ones with lovely prints, perforated leather paired up with feminine, eyelet blouses and the printed peachy suit combo? Whether you wear the total look or each piece as a separate, it was pure poetry.

The last half of the show, was more for Cavalli’s panther women (his regular clientele). Black lace, black leather, laced-up garments, feathers and leopard, plunging necklines and sheer, cheek-baring dresses. The shoes were barely there sandals (as if sexy wasn’t sexy enough). Overall, a pleasant surprise! Hey Roberto, we kinda love this softer side of you, keep it up!

GIANFRANCO FERRÉ

Delightful would be an understatement… For Spring 2013, it was all about the tailoring and the shapes, hence the minimal vibe: from the color palette (white, beige and black with a touch of creamy snakeskin) to the choice of shoes (double strap, barely-there sandals). The hems were short enough, the necklines were plunging and lines were as clean as clean can get. Folded bottoms, another one of the strongest trends for the next season, were also present (that python skirt has to be mine) and so were smart, textured shorts. Waist belts played a really important part and accentuated beautifully the already chic silhouettes.

VERSACE

When the first look cam out, all I could think was, I can really see myself in that little number and if the entire collection keeps on going like this, it’s bound to be a hit. Sadly, the collection didn’t keep the rhythm I hoped.  THE GOOD: The first looks, black with flesh-colored lace inserts, were my favorite part of the show: easy, sexy and new. The adorned skinny trousers, very cool, Marant way cool. The black gladiator pumps (I want to be wearing those on Spring, with my tanned legs and pair of mini shorts). The metallic fringe dress and the blue gown with the boob slit.

THE BAD: The dip-dye was not visually appealing. Some of the details did not seem part of the dresses, they looked like bad appliques. The metallic gladiators were a little Ice T’s Coco for me. The lace-up mini skirt is so “Courtney Does the Country Bar”, not a good look on anyone, not even Courtney.

LOOK OF THE DAY

Pastels for Fall? A difficult task but one that can easily be achieved with a creamy, mohair vest. Add some mint pants and a graphic sweatshirt underneath. The dressy touch? Delicate, salmon pumps and a metallic bag.

For all the details on today’s look, go to Fashiolista

It’s a wrap for MFW, four more PFW posts to go and we are back to normal. Winter is quickly approaching, you know what that means right? After Winter comes Spring. Yeah, in a about 6 months….

Sweet kisses…

The Goodbye Summer/Hello Fall Mash-up: Flowers and lace

Afternoon, my sweet readers! August is almost over and so is my Summer, with the bf back in Italy and only two weeks left with my family, I’m starting to feel the nostalgia. God, time sure flies when you are having a good time. Anyway, back to what concerns us, fashion. As you probably know, we are in the middle of our season transition series, the Goodbye Summer / Hello Fall mash-up. Going from a season to another is much more fun (at least for me) than the start of a new one. Why? Because you get to play with the trends from both Spring and Fall, it’s the best of both worlds! Today I combined two trends that ooze romance and beauty, Spring’s vivid florals and Fall’s lovely lace. To me, the result of mixing them both is just a match made in heaven. And yes, to make things even more beautiful, I threw in a peplum (it was around for Spring and it’s even stronger for Fall). So without further ado, let’s start dissecting so we can later proceed to mash them both up.

  • THE TREND: Vivid Florals
  • Season: Spring 2012
  • As seen in: Preen, Erdem, Docle & Gabbana, Mary Katrantzou, Balmain (pictured)
  • Key wardrobe pieces: Nothing like a blooming dress and a chiffon blouse

Flowers are a constant in fashion but on Spring it was all about the real deal. No, not about making a bra out of real peonies but about the prints, prints so vivid and beautiful that they almost looked alive. And since we are not ready to give up this pretty trend, brace yourself for the Fall florals, the baroque ones (thank you Domenico and Stefano).

The selection: Sneakers, WET SEAL / Blouse, ROMWE / Dress, TED BAKER / Pants, TED BAKER / Boots, JEFFREY CAMPBELL / Bralet, TOPSHOP / Bag, DOLCE & GABBANA

  • THE TREND: Lovely lace
  • The season: Fall 2012
  • As seen in: Colette Dinnigan, Erdem (pictured), Lanvin
  • Key wardrobe pieces: the shorts, the jumper, the pencil skirt and the blouse

Lace is definitely one of my all-time favorite trends, I’m always happy to see it on the runway. I’m even more happy when I see retailers carrying a great variety of garments made with this ladylike and sexy fabric. This coming season won’t be the exception. One of the major trends we got to see on fashion week was the lace blouse with a different collar and the pencil skirt. J’adore!

The selection: Dress, TOPSHOP / Bodysuit, NORMA KAMALI / Blouse, FAITH CONNEXION / Shorts, ROMWE / Clutch, ASOS / Skirt, HAUTE HIPPIE / Shoes, CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA / Jumper, ISABEL MARANT

For me, playing around with textures and prints feels like I’m a kid and I just got a new toy. The key: never be afraid to try. You won’t know if you’ll like it until you wear it so start experimenting. I paired up a pair of vivid floral jeans with a blazer. To give it a twist, the hard lace top with the peplum and the pumps to add up some spice. What do you think? Oh, and about that Rebecca Minkoff carved satchel… It’s the ultimate dreamboat!

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

That’s a wrap for today! And remember, Fashion Week is just around the corner!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The City Blonde (evening)

Greetings from the beautiful Acapulco Bay, the last of my Summer destinations. I am ready to soak up the sun and finally get rid of this white and pasty Winter skin (yes, I haven’t had the chance to do some proper sunbathing). Anyway, back to what concerns us today, the Summer Getaways post. This is the fourth one from the evening round, we only have one more to go and it will be officially over. This time I bring you the City Blonde. So if you are in NYC and you are ready to party, if the London club scene awaits, if it dinner and then drinks in Madrid, here’s what you could be rocking tonight…

  • Snakeskin has gone from trend to constant, we always get to see this beauty on the runway. With a pair of skin-tight, python print jeans, you’ll seriously get the attention you deserve.
  • To tone down the power of the jeans, how about a peplum (it doesn’t get girlier than a peplum)
  • Some people like to pair snake print wit bold colors, I like to do quite the opposite. Play with the same shades as the jeans. As you can see, the result is all-neutral.
  • Toe caps were big this season, keep on rocking them any chance you get
  • For your nails, if you are lucky enough to find the impossible to find GRIS DECO from YSL, it will be the perfect final touch for the look. If not, any pastel gray will do.

WHAT ANITA IS WEARING

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

Time flies by and Summer does too. In about one more post, I will start preparing our minds and closets for Fall.

Sweet’n’sunny kisses…

Here’s what she would wear and how she would wear it:

  • Mixing and matching a leopard bikini top and a scarf print bottom can be a bold move, but it certainly works.
  • Silk, boyfriend shirts are an alternative to your classic kaftan or beach cover-up
  • A pool party look will never be complete without a killer pair of sunnies
  • Paint your toes and fingers with colors as bright and as bold as your ensemble
