Fallin’

fallIt’s been a while, my dear readers, almost three months. After almost four years of blogging, I have now learned that it’s ok to question your posts, to wonder if they have become too repetitive or too boring. It’s ok to take some time to think, to have massive brainstorming sessions and conversations with your troubled and somewhat confused brain, to think about quitting without really having the intention to do so, to sit, breathe and regroup, to get ready and start doing it all over again. When I started Sweet n’raw, it was the only project I had going on in my life. Then came the freelancing and while that was happening (still is) my second baby started taking form. That baby is about to hatch from an egg I’ve been brooding like the hell of a nurturing mother hen that I am (that nurturing quality of mine is reserved to projects and puppies… Little persons, not so much).

My second project, which will be revealed soon enough, also made it hard for me to juggle the blog and my upcoming project. I couldn’t quite figure out how to separate one from the other until I understood that it wasn’t about separating, it was all about combining and that’s exactly what I did. I am armed and ready to start with the new and improved Sweet n’raw. That’s why I wanted to to kick things off with one of my favorite quotes of all-time, a quote about new beginnings, about chances, about Fall. From the talented Mr. Scott Fitzgerald:

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall”.

And since today marks the first day of Fall, let’s start fresh, let’s start all over again. Welcome back my sweet readers, it’s always a pleasure to draw and publish only for you!

Little Miss Bikini

summer

It’s that time of the year again… I spend the entire year longing for July! Why? Because of Summer, warm weather, beach getaways, darker skin, fun nights and colorful swimwear. Need I say more? For Sweet n’raw, Summer means one thing, it’s time for our Bikini special. Every July, for three years in a row, I have been putting together different styles, looks and trends for you to try out when hitting the beach or the pool (I’m more of a pool person). This year, even though I’m a little behind on my posting, I’m ready to give you some Summer fashion you will never forget along with some fun, bright and season illustrations. Are you ready?

We love Summer, because in the Summer skin gets darker, hair gets lighter, music gets louder, water gets warmer, nights get longer, life gets better.

A Modern Day Dorothy

dorothy96

I know, I know, I’m supposed to be covering the frenzy that is Fashion Week right now, but time is not on my side here. I’ll be doing it little by little, in case you are still interested. But now let’s go to today’s image.

The first time I saw the Wizard of Oz when I was a kid, I immediately fell in love with the slippers. Who cared about the lion that talked, or the Good Witch of the North’s sparkly princess gown, or the yellow brick road, I could only focus on the magical and glitzy pair of heels.  Dorothy’s red, glittery slippers quickly became top of the list when it came to Christmas and birthday wish lists. But my mom wasn’t gonna gift her child a pair of red, shiny heels so I used to get Keds instead. Then came the discovery, a pair of silver glittery pumps inside my mother’s closet. Naturally, those became part of my outfits whenever we played pretend. I was about 8 so they obviously didn’t fit but I walked around the house all the time like a waddling duck in my mom’s magical silver slippers. It never was about the color, it was about the glitter, until now. Dorothy’s red slippers and my mom’s silver heels have morphed into a new aspirational item, a pair of pink glitter Miu Miu pumps and trust me on this one, now that I’m old enough to buy them for myself, I will (as soon as I find $650 bucks lying around somewhere).

Wishing you a great week!

SHALLOW SOPH: Enjoy the little things…

littlethings96

Shallow Soph is back, more superficial and sharper than ever! Here she is:

Someone once said that good things come in small packages. I have always disagreed with the statment, I’m a fine package but I’m not bottle sized, I’m quite tall actually. My shoe closet is filled with good packages (all from Giuseppe, Gianvito and Jimmy) but I’m a 9 1/2, that doesn’t qualify as small. I like wine, I like the six bottle box better than the bottle alone. Now is the time for you to agree with me, not all good things come in small packages. In fact, most good things come in big-ass (my ass is not big, it’s actually petite) packages.

But as in all things, there’s an exception (or two, or three) to the rule: The smaller the bikini bottom, the better my petite bottom will fit. Jewelry, now that’s a good small package. Tiny liquor bottles and perfume ones, they always come in handy. And last but definitely not list, the bags. You like yours oversize? Then you haven’t seen the mini versions and you are really missing out. They are tiny, they are pretty and absolutely delightful. You know, like a cupcake, only they last forever and they don’t make you fat. So my advice for you:

“Enjoy the little things in life”.

(The Little Vintage Chanel, Little Hermes Kelly, Little LV Vivienne, Little Celine Luggage Little Pashli, Littly City Balenciaga  and Little Valentino Lock).

Have a great weekend y’all!

Oh Paris!

oh paris

I’m an “obsession du jour” kind of girl, new day, new obsession. But there are three constants in my life, the color blush, the pastel palette and Paris. I know, I know, I’m a walking cliche and you know what? I also have a thing for cliches. Lately, I have been transforming my doodles into prints and patterns. You’ll never get digital, vivid or abstract from me, I’m old school, I’m hand-drawn and I like ironic and fun. So I whipped up this little Paris poster, because Paris (in real life, in a dream, in a drawing, in a picture, or in a dress) is always such a good idea!

Enjoy your own company…

company

I agree, the process of getting ready and all dolled-up for a weekend night out is fun, exciting and even more fun when a glass of wine or several glasses are involved. But every once in a while, and I made a ritual out of this while living in Milan, a night by yourself, in your pajamas is all you need. Life goes on at a crazy pace, so every now and then, our bodies and minds need a breather.

My breather involves a good book (The Game of Thrones series is now inside my Kindle), a good movie or series (nothing dark, something funny or romantic), a bottle (okay, two bottles) of Cabernet (or Merlot, or Malbec but not Shiraz, I hate Shiraz), a bowl of pasta (it’s tastier than pizza and it makes you feel less of a pig after the pigout), a box of Mr. Stanley’s classic fudge (my drug and a potential drug for you if you haven’t tried it) and a big-ass slice of carrot cake. The next day? That’s when the cucumber/mint/lemon detox begins.

Fan of enjoying your own company every once in a while? If not, you should try it sometime!

Have a lovely weekend folks!

SHALLOW SOPH: Black Friday?

And then Sophie managed to make Black Friday more shallow than it already is… and pink.

Happy shopping y’all!

SHALLOW SOPH: This Winter…

crowd96

The year was 2008, Sophie’s first of five European Winters. Coming from a country where the climate used to be gentle (thank you, global warming), our shallow one never felt the need to buy heavy outerwear. Of course, she owned a classic, black, wool-blend coat, which came in handy when she traveled to colder destinations. But for the city, leather bikers, trench coats and bomber jackets were everything she needed… Until she had to face wintertime in Milan, Italy.

She thought the wool-blend coat would be enough, but eventually she grew colder and tired of wearing the same damn thing every single day. And so the search began and her first (and only) physical encounter with that vicious villain commonly known as the puffer jacket. Even though Sophie already knew she loathed it, she gave it a shot and tried one on. After staring at herself in a mirror, horrified at the sight of the shiny garbage bag, Michelin woman, she had two choices: Walk around town feeling warm but looking like a Thanksgiving parade balloon, about to take off. Or stick with the wool and bare the cold. She went with the wool and mastered the art of layering.

Since then, Sophie has never worn a puffer jacket again and she never will (not even Moncler). And don’t say never say never, please.

From Sophie, with love,

SHALLOW SOPH: Don’t I look darling?

bike96

One of the perks of having an illustrated character based on yourself is that you can put the damn thing in any situation or scenario possible. Often, and thanks to Pinterest, I get some of my inspiration out of pictures and quotes I find online. That’s exactly what happened with this Clemence Poesy spread from Glamour UK February 2012, I fell in love and I knew I had to try to draw our very own Shallow Soph in a pretty, pastel bike (even though she has completely forgotten how to ride one), with a pretty and sugary outfit and some pretty, pretty flowers.

“I may not be able to ride a bike, but don’t I look darling on it?”

Have a lovely weekend!

SHALLOW SOPH: Wild Spirit?

wildspirit96

And so Shallow Soph takes over, again:

Me? A wild spirit?

Why, of course!

Can’t you see I’m wearing Dolce & Gabbana Animalier?

Don’t you know that when it comes to prints and pumps, I own the entire jungle?

I also love wild orchids and they seem to love me back!

I love to let my hair down sometimes (after a blowout, of course) and I’ve slept with my make up on.

Wild enough?
