NY’s FINEST SPRING 2014, part 2

nyfinest2

Yeah, I know what some of you are thinking. You might be thinking that this is not a race, that everyone’s a winner. Well, that doesn’t really happen when it comes to fashion. When it comes to Fashion Week, some finish last, some finish first. That’s why every season I like to choose my top 10. Yesterday we started our countdown, the spots from 10 – 6 have already been filled. Now it’s time to reach the top of this little chart of mine, the five best shows (in my opinion) from what was a fabulous Fashion Week in New York. Are you ready to discover my picks? Keep on reading!

proenza

Lázaro Hernandez and Jack McCoullough can do no wrong. Their collections always rank really high, their shows have always so much buzz around them and there are many reasons why that keeps happening. But the main one, their clothes are always exquisite. For Spring 2014, with a neutral color palette and some hints of shimmer, they presented a collection packed with beautiful tailoring and craftsmanship. And no we are not talking hand-embroidery or embellishments, we are talking construction. From coats to evening dresses, it was all so effortless and chic at the same time!

jasonwu

Jason Wu had been following a patter until now, that chic goes bondage theme was a regular in his runway shows. For Spring 2014, he went all soft and glam on us. And guess what? We kind of love it! The color palette was all about powdery shades and pastels (touch of navy and black here and there). The shimmery fabrics played the most important role of the collection, paired up against slouchy coats and loose midi skirts. The slip was everywhere, from those sultry sparkly numbers to sheer, crisp white ones. It was different drom what we’ve always seen from him, but it still had Jason Wu written all over.

MKors

Oh boy, this was a beautiful surprise and a beautiful collection! The most important thing, it was so wearable and so likeable and it had that retro feel that everybody loves. The structured garments (blazers and trench coats) worked perfectly with those leaf-printed, breezy dresses. And while the color palette was a little bit on the earthy side (I’m not that fond of that range), I couldn’t care less, I fell in love. The highlights? The pin-up bikini, the short suits and short combos, that dress with the thigh-high slit and plunging neckline (it would’ve been too much, but it somehow worked) and the platforms (simple platforms, but platforms ever girl needs inside her closet).

jmendel

I’m always drawn to peachy colors and meticulous garments and that’s exactly what J.Mendel gave me for their Spring 2014 collection. Ever since that all-white Winter collection, I’ve been keeping an eye on this brand and I’m not disappointed at all. This collection was all about the short, short hem (thank God someone out there is still thinking about legs, with all the midi and 3/4 skirts we have been seeing) the pastels and the details (even the simplest of dresses had a little special something). We got to see short combos, skirt combos, pleated and ruffled hems, embellishments and beautiful prints and shoes. Those shoes, those shoes were even better than Sophia Webster’s range for J. Crew. Those shoes were even better than Delpozo’s bow sandals. I have to get me some J. Mendel heels next Spring, I really have to.

altuzarra

And last but definitely not least, the top of the list. With an effortlessly sexy collection, one of my favorite NYFW designers, Mr. Joseph Altuzarra. The slits on his skirts went as high as a slit can get. The layering and the styling was spot on. The collection was all about separates coming together and variations. He understands that there has to be something for everyone in a collection. While some of his sexy skirts were paired up with silk button downs, tank tops and long sleeve t-shirts were also an option. The highlight? The metallic fabric he used on some of the skirts and lightweight jackets. He gets the first place not only because it was all so wearable, but because it was original and beyond desirable!

That’s a wrap! We are moving on to LFW Trends and best shows. Are you ready for more Spring 2014? Don’t worry, I’m on it!

Sweet kisses…

NY’s FINEST, part 2

ny's finest 1

It’s MFW day 2, and unlucky us, we woke up this morning to a storm, followed by some light snow. By the time the clock hits 4:00 pm, we will be covered in it. It’s the last post about NYFW, and then we are moving on to the LFW trends! It’s the final countdown, the five shows that made it on to the top: the ringmaster, the prodigy, the surprise, the dynamic duo and even bigger surprise. Are you ready to discover them? Keep on reading!

wang

All eyes were on his show on this edition of NYFW. After all, he is the new Creative Director of Balenciaga, his debut for the French brand is scheduled for Feb. 28. It will be an intimate affair, only a chosen few will get to witness it (Salma, you bitch!). Back to his namesake, leave it to Mr.Wang to completely reinvent the coat. With a basic color palette (black, grey and white), he combined textures and textiles (shiny leather and wool, silk and fur, leather and fur), he draped, he folded and he killed it. The fun detail? Boxing fur gloves and sweater-covered shoes! I may be needing those next Winter. Overall, this was a sartorial sneak peek of what we may be seeing on Balenciaga next week. Is he gonna be able to fill Ghesquiere’s gigantic shoes?

j.crew

I bet you didn’t expect this one, right? With Jenna Lyons on the steering wheel, J. Crew has really been stepping up its game. The Fall 2013 collection was a celebration of all that hard work, but more importantly, it really put J.Crew up there, where the big shot designers live. Every single piece of the presentation was covetable and wearable. The mash-ups were out of this world: colors, florals, herringbone, embllishments and jacquard played beautifully together. The highlight? The coats and the shoes. Those colorful ankle straps and the metallic t-bars will be everywhere next season, mark my words. To Jenna Lyons, you are simply the best!

marc jacobs

Marc has been around for quite a while and he is the ringmaster of NYFW. He has the “big dramatic show” syndrome, like fellow designer Karl Lagerfeld. The difference between these two? Call it age or whatever… With the seasons, Karl’s creations drown in the set (they are not as powerful as they used to be). Marc on the other side, his sets really empower his collections (they work together and they deliver). For this season, he took the concept of evening pajamas to a whole new level. The color palette was soft, but the textures and the fabric were out of this world. The show was all about shiny, almost liquid gowns, beautiful knitwear adorned with lavish, fur stoles and hotpants, lots of them. It was all paired up with retro, ankle-strap sandals.

p schouler

Lázaro and Jack have accustomed us to their crazy mix of prints and beautiful embroideries. This season, we definitely were not expecting what came down the runway: Neutrals, neutrals and more neutrals. They clearly focused on construction, sartorial details and simplicity. But their simplicity is more complex than it seems: they played with volumes and layers, and they did an incredible job. The accessories (one of the main reasons why we love this duo): oversize clutches and the pointy shoes (with bows, with straps, grey, you name it). It was a clean and sophisticated collection, different from what they usually do, but equally perfect.

phillip lim

He has been working hard for the past seasons and this collection really shows how far he’s come. It was, without a doubt, the best show of the bunch. The construction was spot on, the colors and the textures worked to perfection, the shapes and the details were so unexpected and beautiful at the same time. Layering was flawless, just check out the first look and you’ll understand. It was effortless, it was chic, it was urban, it was the epitome of cool. I could go on and on praising him, because the truth is, I can’t stop looking at his collection. He paired motorcycle vests with simple knits, slouchy trousers and statement skirts with sweatshirts and plaid. The highlight of the show? The textured shorts and the patchwork. I give him a standing ovation, how about you?

That’s a wrap! NYFW has been reviewed and covered! What was your favorite show?

Sweet kisses..

Sweet n’raw’s X’mas Shopping Guide: THE COUNTRY KID

country kid cover

Happy Wednesday, my sweet readers! I’m back with the third part of our Christmas Gift Guide. So far, I’ve given you ideas for the flower lover and for the french obsessed. Today it’s all about the country girl. No, you don’t have to be a Miranda Lambert to love this style. No, you don’t have to wear cowboy boots and bustier to school. So if you have a friend who enjoys weekends in the country, wrapped in a heavy-knit shawl… If you have a sister who has more fringed boots than a Minnetonka storage facility… If your colleague enjoys musky scents, fireplaces, hot cups of tea and broderie anglaise, you’ve come to the right place. NYFW COVERAGE: It’s a wrap!

Good Morning, my sweet readers! I’m enjoying the last days in Mexico City, with my family and friends. Even though it is always hard to say goodbye, getting back to Milano just in time for FashionWeek is really exciting. Since this weekend we celebrated the Mexican Independence, between all the party and the Tequila, I fell a little behind with my reviews (blame it on the shots). Anyway, the last five from NYC are here, written and ready for you. Keep on reading, baby!

ANNA SUI SPRING 2013

Ever since I was a 13 year old, I’ve been a fan of Anna Sui. Her perfumes were a regular on my beauty table. Each season, even though she never seems to steal the spotlight, she manages to deliver beautiful, interesting and delightful collections. The thing about this designer, she puts special attention to details. Each look, each piece, each accessory, has that certain uniqueness and that Anna Sui signature style. She doesn’t seem to follow a certain line of inspiration (each ensemble is very different from the rest), but when you put everything together, there is that sense of collection. For her Spring 2013, Anna Sui was all about rocker with a French twist. With models the size of Karlie Kloss and Lindsey Wixson, the runway was painted with micro-florals (the kind we really, really love). The girls sported fishnet tights (cropped, of course) with flared dresses and cropped jackets, lace underneath plaid (the punk touch), textures on textures and rips all over amost everything else. The funky ingredient? Candy-colored hair!

PROENZA SCHOULER SPRING 2013

When it comes to Proenza Schouler, forget about Ralph Lauren, forget about Calvin Klein and as much as it hurts to say it, forget about Marc Jacobs. This is the star of NYFW and it’s not something that’s earned easily (Jack and Lazaro have worked their pretty asses off, season after season). Thier Fall 2012 show was a beautiful display of fashionable perfection (the peacocks and the skirts were pure poetry) and a show that was gonna be hard to top. By just looking at a couple of runway shots, we can safely say that they managed to pull it off. By entering the world of the digital print, they just proved they can do it all and kill it all (in a good way). Knee-length was the only length, print patchwork their strongest element and as always, flawless tailoring their weapon of choice.

Boxy jackets, leather garments, perforated skirts, and colored snakeskin (move over, blue eel, python’s in the house) accompanied Proenza Schouler’s cheery print collage. As for the accessories (a matter that has to be addressed, we are talking about the boys that gave womankind the gift of the PS1), gladiator-like shoes (big, big ass, ginormous trend for next season), cut-out sandals, embellished ones and of course, printed bags. We just can’t get enough of Lazaro, Jack and their unique creativity and style.

CALVIN KLEIN SPRING 2013

She’s sexy and she knows it! That’s the Spring 2013 woman for designer Francisco Costa. But we are not talking sexy in a Victoria’s Secret-pouting-brazilian-bombshell kind of way, we are talking sexy in a demure, sophisticated and classy one. This Calvin Klein collection was all about sheer, shapes, panels, inserts and a very neutral color palette. As minimal as one can get (duh, after all, it’s Calvin Klein), Costa sent and array of mid-length skirts and cocktail dresses down de runway. With some cut-outs and plunging necklines here and there, the collection oozed classy sex, yeah, as strange as that may sound, that’s what came to mind. It was definitely a great way to bid farewell to NYFW, great indeed.

RALPH LAUREN SPRING 2013

About the sarape thing on Ralph Lauren’s show, we are not even going to go there. Ralph Lauren has always given us themed catwalks, Gatsby for Spring 2012 and Dapper boys for Fall 2012. This time, the designer was all about the Latin  vibe (a little over-the-top, if you ask me). Maybe it’s just me, but there’s more to us than the Mexican blanket cliché, or the Spanish matador jacket (when Moschino did it, I loved it, this time, not so much). It’s like when it comes to music and someone asks: “So you are latin? I love the Gypsy Kings”. I don’t think that Bamboleo is the only definition for our music. Anyway, enough with the bashing and on to the positive: the evening wear.

Ralph Lauren is definitely getting stronger and stronger in this department. Last season, he killed it with the silk and the feathers, this season even more so! Wanna bet that little white number with the red rose makes it on to red carpet? I’m pretty sure it will. Satin, column dresses, liquid gowns and a few embellished numbers were part of Ralph’s evening display. A beginning I’d like to forger, but a closing that’s worth remebering.

REED KRAKOFF SPRING 2013

Oh man, Reed Krakoff just keeps on getting better and better by the season. Each piece from each and every single one of the ensembles looked like it really belonged. The chunks of color (neutral colors) worked perfectly with each other and with the tailoring. There was sheer where sheer was needed, there where panels where panels where needed and pink-colored python (my dream finally came true). The vibe? Triple S: sexy, sophisitcated and sporty. The most important element of the show: sweatshirts (big trend this Fall and even bigger for next Spring). As for the accessories, I’m gonna be opening soon the “Help this poor soul buy her pair of Reed Krakoff, two-tone, strappy sandals” fund (just in case you want to donate to this humble cause).

LOOK OF THE DAY

When it comes to color combnations, I always love twisting and turning until it feels right. For today’s look, I wanted some drama and colors like Oxblood and Bottle Green are just that. To soften the look, a threw in a little blush (that Zara blazer, the one that popped more than once on those NYFW street style snapshots, is just a dreamboat) and to spice things up, a little leopard print never hurts, right? This will be the last days of shorts and bare pins, before Fall and tights fall upon us. Let’s make the most of it, shall we?

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

That’s a wrap for NYC (I just realized I totally forgot Rodarte, but I’m too lazy to review the Mulleavys now)! Moving on to London and all it’s excentric fabulousness!

Have a great week, sweet kisses…

NYFW COVERAGE: A birdcage never looked so pretty…

Good Tuesday, my sweet readers! Only three days left and it will be a wrap for NYFW. Thankfully, we still have London, my Milan and Paris. This is our third “runway reviews” post and so far, I couldn’t be more delighted with the Spring 2013 collections. Today I have for you an interesting mix: nature-loving Thakoon, a more mature and fabulous Posh Spice, Tibi’s nonchalant chic, Derek Lam’s texture parade and 3.1 Phillip Lim’s eclectic charm. Now, before I say too much, let’s get this thing started!

THAKOON SPRING 2013

Faithful to his origins, Thakoon always adds that special spice to his shows. His Spring 2013 collection was no exception. Clearly inspired by nature (Spring screams for beautiful flowers and birds), the designer sent out the runway a mix of lively prints, beautiful layers, an interesting texture mash-up and a color palette so diverse it only made things more interesting. Spotted: sky blue makes an appearance, again. As for the trends: sheer madness, jacquard, lace appliques, flared skirts and peplums. What’s not to love?

The most interesting and beautiful thing: birdcages took the form of dresses for his opening looks. Another thing we loved? The wallflower print jumpers with the transparent detail. For the shoes, thick double strap shoes (big accessory trend so far). Overall, it was feminine, sweet, romantic and garden-inspired (I love all things garden-inspired). To me, Thakoon really captured what Spring should feel and look like.

VICTORIA BECKHAM SPRING 2013

If she keeps this going, she might become the next best thing. Sure, she is a singer turned designer, lucky enough to have England’s resident hunk as a husband. That always helps steal the spotlight! But Victoria Beckham has proved to be more than a celebrity with a budget (think Jessica Simpson and her Louboutin knock-off “designs”), she has creativity, drive and talent (whether she is behind the line or there is someone else, we are so buying the whole act). For her Spring 2013 show, she concentrated more on the details than on the colors. No prints and a four-color palette: poppy red, black, nude and white. Clean silhouettes, perfectly tailored shapes, lingerie inserts, flared skirts (big trend alert) and the nude booties were among the elements she presented on the runway. It was effortless chic all the way. Big kudos to Vic, she really killed it this time!

TIBI SPRING 2013

Tibi is the ultimate indulgence for the cool kids out there, think blogger Aimee Song with her cropped skinny jeans, ankle-strap, barely there sandals and killer set of pins. Amy Smilovic kept prints to a minimum this time, it was all about the leather, the color blocks, the leg-flashing garments, the perforated details and the flared skirts. Doing what she does best, it was street chic all the way. Expect pieces of this collection all over the blog scene next season, not only because it’s fabulous, but because it’s more affordable than that $5,000 Balmain jacket we constantly weep for. The highlight: how she worked that pink and yellow with the rest of the muted colors.

DEREK LAM SPRING 2013

Call it the clash of the textures, that’s Derek Lam’s Spring 2013 show. With a color palette so lively and diverse (mustard, crimson, bright blue, bright yellow) and bold shapes and details, the designer managed to make a strong statement on the runway. Far from his California-inspired Spring 2012 collection, Lam gave this one a Fall feeling. He paired up detailed pencil skirts with oversize, sleeveless sweatshirts (my favorite part of the show). His Spring trench coat will be among the coveted items for next season and his printed shifts will definitely follow behind. It was an easy to wear and sporty-chic collection. Everyone will be wanting a piece of that, for sure!

3.1 PHILLIP LIM SPRING 2013

Perhaps one of the most interesting collections so far, different from anything we’ve seen from Phillip Lim before and with so many elements to take in at the same time. From the delightful micro-floral print to the game of textures, it was complexity at its best. Inspired by Dada-ism and its influences, the collection had that rocker chic vibe with a touch of grunge.

Layers, inserts, sheer details, built-in garments, print mash-ups, texture mix merged, resulting in total careless chic. My favorite part: the I heart Nueva York t-shirt and the sweater, floral bomber he paired up with a tee and a skirt. For the shoes, as eclectic as the rest of the collection. It was unexpected, but in a good way (a great one, if you ask me).

LOOK OF THE DAY

The thing I love about the army jacket trend, is that I get to girlify it as much as I want. What better way to play with it than by pairing it up with a lace dress with floral details. It may sound weird, but it seems to work. To add another twist, lace-up shoes are the perfect match. For accessories, keep it simple and golden. What do you think?

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

It’s a wrap for today! 15 reviews down, and so many to go! The Spring 2013 runways are in full bloom and we couldn’t be more excited. Be sure to check back for more new fashion, trends and more! Remember, the Seven Deadly Sins: blogger edition will return soon!

Sweet kisses…

The Goodbye Summer/Hello Fall Mash-up: Scarf print and white

Good morning, my sweet readers! I’m up early, with my cup of coffee while it rains outside (God, it’s the best feeling in the world). Today I’m heading back to the city, leaving my gorgeous piece of seaside paradise and I have for you the second entry from our Summer/Fall mash-up. Scarf print was definitely my weakness this season, ask the Versace-esque Zara selection inside my closet and the whole article I wrote on this trend. Nowadays, mixing and matching prints is a must but since foulard-inspired garments are so beautiful to look at, I paired it up with a minimal Fall trend: white. Let’s see how this two trends clash together:

  • THE TREND: Scarf print
  • As seen in: Thakoon, D&G, Versace, Derek Lam
  • Key wardrobe pieces: Button-down shirt, smart shorts

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, both masters when it comes to all things sexy and dramatic, came up with this homage to the foulard for their final D&G collection for Spring 2012. The result: one of the freshest and most beautiful collections of the season. Who knew scarves could be used in so many ways? Anyway, after the Italian duo, retailers followed. From River Island’s sexy cropped tops to H&M’s flashy colors and prints, this trend was everywhere and thank God for it!

The selection: Pants, RIVER ISLAND / Dress, ROMWE / Top, DOLCE GABBANA / Shirt, DOROTHY PERKINS / Foulard, ROMWE / Skirt, D&G / Shorts, H&M

  • THE TREND: White
  • As seen in: Proenza Schouler, J. Mendel, Alexander Wang, Maison Martin Margiela
  • Key wardrobe pieces: tailored pants, cable-knit jumper, blazer

For Fall, white is the new black (at least that’s how I, the black hater, likes to think about it). Seasons ago, no one would’ve thought white would become such a strong color for the dark season, but since fashion is all about the unexpected, the white, Fall eagle has landed. Whether is a white total look (good luck staying clean) or just a garment, you must rock this color in the coming season. Why not start now?

The selection: Pants, STELLA McCARTNEY / High-tops, ASH / Tuxedo blazer, MANGO / Pumps, CHARLOTTE OLYMPIA / Shorts, ACNE / Jumper, MANGO / Ring, MANGO / Collar, KARL / Blouse TOPSHOP

SCARF PRINT + WHITE LOOK

Using all white for the rest of the look does enhance and focuses the attention on the print.  The mustard and red accessories give the whole ensemble that navy, old school Moschino touch. For arm candy, a gold overload completes the outfit to perfection.

Have a great day!

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The City Blonde (beachwear)

Good Sunday y’all! I rarely go four days without posting, this time, I blame it on my sucky internet connection (ok, and some booze ingestion). Since time is of the essence, I’m gonna make things quick. This is the fifth and last post from our Summer Getaways, beachwear round. This next week we’ll be entering into the Daywear round and I’ll be reporting to you from the one and only NYC. Tomorrow I’m flying out to New York and I couldn’t be happier (it’s been three years since my last visit). Perfect timing huh? Since it’s the City Blonde’s turn…

So if you are, like me, planning a NYC getaway, if you are heading out to rainy London for the Summer, if you are ready to breathe in the concrete and take over the asphalt jungle, then this is the pool ensemble you are gonna need with you,

  • Bright solid swimwear always makes a statement
  • Chiffon, silk or sheer shirts make perfect cover-ups
  • Color-blocking is always more fun than matching it all
  • Satchels are the perfect alternatives to beach totes (and since your are probably gonna hit the pool rather than the beach).
  • Ray-ban Wayfarers are classics with swag
  • Make Summer the perfect excuse to buy Dior Vernis Summer Mix collection, it’s a must-have

WHAT ANITA IS WEARING

  1. Bikini top, THOMAS MAIER
  2. Bikini bottoms, TARA MATTHEWS
  3. Neon chiffon shirt, NASTY GAL
  4. Pink shorts, MONKI
  5. Studded sandals, ALDO SHOES
  6. Neon bag, PROENZA SCHOULER
  7. Wayfarer sunnies, RAY-BAN
  8. Mixed bangle set, ASOS
  9. Spiked bracelet, KARMALOOP
  10. Neon pendant, SHOUROUK
  11. Summer Mix collection, DIOR VERNIS

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

I’m off to run some errands, then some packing, then some post planning. See you tomorrow New York City.

Wishing you a lovely Sunday, sweet kisses…

Sweet’n’Raw’s NEON NATION: THE JACKET

How do you like your coffee, my sweet readers? Milk, one of sugar and a pinch of neon? Let’s start this day with a bright and electric post. This is the second one from our Neon Nation series and it’s the jacket’s turn. This Spring has been so bizarre that with the rain, wind and temperature swings, jackets always come in handy. Here’s a selection you can find online!

LOOK OF THE DAY

Beach prints are also a huge trend this season, by mixing this two up you get an even trendier look. To enhance both garments, I added neutral accessories. What do you think? Do you like the result?
