SHALLOW SOPH: Don’t I look darling?

One of the perks of having an illustrated character based on yourself is that you can put the damn thing in any situation or scenario possible. Often, and thanks to Pinterest, I get some of my inspiration out of pictures and quotes I find online. That’s exactly what happened with this Clemence Poesy spread from Glamour UK February 2012, I fell in love and I knew I had to try to draw our very own Shallow Soph in a pretty, pastel bike (even though she has completely forgotten how to ride one), with a pretty and sugary outfit and some pretty, pretty flowers.

“I may not be able to ride a bike, but don’t I look darling on it?”

Have a lovely weekend!

La Reine

Oh, how I love my doodles! If you have been reading me for a while, you probably have noticed that theme wallpapers are really my thing. It all started one day, after hours and hours of creative block, I read somewhere that doodling on a notepad was a way of breaking the “dry brain” spell. And so I began with a face, then a pair of shoes, then a Chanel bag and so on. That’s when it hit me: The doodles were very Parisian and they looked so good together. So I scanned my scribbles and I started repeating them on a blank Photoshop canvas, creating a print. After the Lady Doodles, I came up with the beach theme, then Audrey Hepburn and many more!

Today I have one that’s very close to my heart, the Marie Antoinette doodle. You may hate her, you may love her, but she’s had a strong influence in my artistic style. As a teenager, I favored dark clothes, metal music, dog spikes and random piercings in random body parts. Then the magic happened. Like Cinderella, I blame it on a pair of pink shoes but also on Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. Those two things turned me into the pastel-obsessed Francophile I am today. Devoting a doodle wallpaper to her was something I just had to do and I hope you love the result as much as I did making this print.

Have a lovely weekend! Sweet kisses…

The higher the heel…

“The higher the heel, the closer to heaven I feel”.

You may or may not agree with me, but it sure is a fine excuse to fill that shoe closet up!

Spring 2013 Trends: LADY MELLOW

LADY MELLOW COVERGood morning, my sweet readers! We are just three days away from the start of what will be a glorious fashion month. I’m already whipping up some posts and getting all prepped and ready for Sweet n’Raw’s coverage. In the meantime, I still have a bunch of Spring trends in the oven, sitting there, waiting to be published. While we wait for the Fall collections to walk the runways, we can start lusting after the Spring items that will be joining our closets.

Today I have for you an all-time favorite trend: LADY MELLOW. My affair with pastel colors began after my punk and goth teenage years. I went from being a girl with Che Guevara t-shirts and neck piercings, to being the queen of lace (no, not black and vampy, but sugary and pretty) with a powdery shades obsession. That’s why every time my beloved mint and my baby pink appear on the runway, I get high as a kite. This season, pastels are not the strongest trend but thankfully, they are still around. But the Lady Mellow trend is not only about pastels, it’s about powdery garments, with a ladylike vibe, lots of lace, crepe de chine, volume skirts, picture perfect handbags, sheer and jacquard, and lovey dovey knitwear. Think Betty Draper, when she was more sweet than sour.

  • Peter Som / Rochas / Erdem
  • Christopher Kane / Carolina Herrera / Oscar de la Renta

MUST-HAVE ITEMS: A pretty yellow dress for sunny days. A pair of pastel, tapered shorts. A pink, flirty skirt. A pastel bikini (a girl always has Summer in her  mind) and a bunch of powdery button-downs.

The Goodbye Summer / Hello Fall Mash-up

Cover: Prada Spring 2012 bodysuit, Marc Jacobs Fall 2012 hat

Hello, hello my sweet readers! It’s finally Friday and I’m happily stranded on my little piece of paradise, commonly known as Acapulco. Days at the beach are always good for the spirit, the body and the mind (especially when you need to get that creativity flowing). Anyway, back to what concerns us today, fashion. Since we are done with our Summer Getaways series and this season is coming to an end, I decided to bid farewell to S/S 2012 and welcome A/W 2012 at the same time, mixing them up and pairing them up. Oh yes, this series shall be baptized as the Goodbye Summer / Hello Spring mash-up. You might be wondering how I’m gonna handle and juggle them both, well let me explain. I picked six of my favorite trends from Spring 2012 (the ones that almost left me and you almost bankrupt, damn you Zara!) and six of my favorite ones from the coming season, Fall 2012. Now that I have my teams formed, I’m going to make the pairings. For each Spring trend, a Fall one. One look, two trends (one S/S and one F/W). Hey, anything to make this transition easier. Let’s start with my Summer picks:

Last Spring (2011 that is) I said: “This is my favorite season ever, and I won’t like another one as much as I liked this one”. I was wrong. On September 2011, I fell in love (I think the runway candy coating had a lot to do with it) and yes, this was my favorite season ever and we’ll see if on September I’ll bite my tongue again (I most likely will). From the pastels, to the underwater world, to the pajama land, each and every one of the trends were to die for. Here are my favorite six:

PASTEL COLORS: Almost every runway show of the season did it: Louis Vuitton, Prada (pictured), Jonathan Saunders, Meadham Kirchhoff

SCARF PRINT: D&G (pictured) said goodbye to the world with this spectacular, foulard-inspired show

NEON: From dresses, to jeans, to shoes and box clutches, neon was everywhere this season. Peter Som (pictured) and Nanette Lepore were among the designers who showcased the trend.

THE PEPLUM: Need I say more? Jason Wu’s (pictured) pink number was among the most coveted looks of the season.

TANGERINE: It was officially named the color of the season. This sassy look was spotted on the Nanette Lepore catwalk (pictured).

PAJAMAS: Stella McCartney’s prints and shapes made her one of the top collections of the season (along with Jonathan Saunders, Peter Pilotto and Proenza Schouler). Is that reason enough to start wearing pajamas? I’d say so.

I had always been a sucker for Spring and a Fall hater, up until the moment designers started using vivid colors and prints for the “darker” season. Seeing those lively prints, shiny textures and lightweight fabrics on the Fall runways, make me wish for it as much as I yearly wish for Spring. Here are my six favorite trends from Fall 2012:

BAROQUE: If more is more, then I’m absolutely in. Opulence ruled the catwalks for the coming season and no one does that better than my favorite Italian duo, Dolce Gabbana (pictured).

OXBLOOD: Remember how Tangerine Tango was the color of the season. Well Oxblood is the new Tangerine Tango. This seductive shade was everywhere, from DVF and Alexander Wang, to Rodarte (pictured) and Haider Ackermann.

FLORAL PRINT: Yep, let’s face it, whether is Spring or Fall, whether it rains or snows, flowers will always be on the trendy side. Erdem (pictured) is quickly becoming the floral master.

GOLDEN GIRL: More is more and the shinier the better. That’s my motto in life. This season brace yourself for those metallic jeans and those heavy and shiny dresses. One of Prabal Gurung’s (pictured) final numbers is proof of that.

LINGERIE: A trend that just keeps coming back and that gets constantly reinvented. A constant in Nina Ricci’s (pictured) Peter Copping’s collections.

WHITE AS SNOW: Absence of black! Absence of black! Another motto of mine. Imagine how thrilled I am to know that I’m gonna be going for white coats instead of dark ones this season. J. Mendel (pictured) shows us how to look fabulously chic and effortlessly perfect with this white and wintery look.

Now that you’ve seen my picks, you can help me do the pairings. Which Spring and Fall trends would you like to see together?

Friday, I wanna be drunk!

Sweet kisses…

SUMMER GETAWAYS 2012: The Jet-set Junkie (daywear)

I plan on making it up to you (after my 12 day absence), so I’m posting on a daily basis (because of the time it takes to prepare on post, I usually publish 16 entries a month). We are just starting with our Daywear round on our Summer Getaways series and it’s the Jet-set Junkie time. In case you haven’t met Sweet’n’Raw’s favorite sibarite, click HERE and HERE to find out more about her. So if the destination you chose for this Summer is near France’s lavish, blue sea, if a glamorous beach where you plan to spend your days, sipping some bubbly while reading under your fabulous Borsalino panama, you’ll need a day ensemble to walk around, shop, brunch and all of those things people do on those lavish beach destinations. Here’s what I put together.

  • Enough with the white, in with the pastel. As we prepare to bid farewell to another fabulous season, we need to make the most out of this candy trend.
  • Printed shirts, like this polka dot one, are perfect canvases for statement necklaces. A tip: I like to match the print with the necklace, so look for similar colors, textures. It’ll look as if it’s part of the shirt.
  • High waist shorts are perfect for the Summer heat. Plus, you’ll always look dressy enough.
  • Satchels make perfect travel mates, just choose the right size. Cambridge Satchel Company has been making them for years and years and ASOS gets them delivered to your doorstep. Baby Pink is a limited edition, so RUN!
  • For a lasting vacation manicure, Chanel is definitely the way to go. One of Sweet’n’Raw’s all-time favorite pink polishes is Ballerina.

For all the details on today’s look, go to FASHIOLISTA

There you go girls! If you are heading to the South of France or St. Barts or any other glamour beach, this is an day outfit idea that could work just fine!

Sweet kisses…
