It’s my day today folks! I was lucky enough to be brought into this world (by the most wonderful woman, my mother, the hero) in a time of Spring. Spring is a season of change, a season of renewal, of light and yes, a season for new plans and new projects (it’s also the time when I can start flashing my ghostly-after-winter legs). This curly-haired, stubborn Arian was born today, a few years ago (we are currently on a Peter Pan phase, so my age is one thing I like to keep to myself) and since then, birthdays have been more about learning, reflecting and appreciating life than celebrating.

This year has been a year of change with a touch of chaos and you know what say about change, right? Change is always good. I start a new year and a new chapter in my life full of hope, with a strong spirit, wiser than ever and stronger than yesterday. I start a new year having all the love in the world, my delightfully chaotic family (life has a purpose thanks to them), my partner in crime, in love and in life, my dreamboat (I’m the luckiest girl in the world), and even though I’m not a “many friends” kind of person, I have the ones I need and the ones I know are true.

So here’s to that extra candle on top of my cake, here’s to a new year, here’s to the future and all the great things I know it’s holding for me.  Here’s to life and to yours truly, Little Miss March!

Happy birthday to me!

Güerita Doodles

La Güerita

She is a blonde bombshell with a beautiful mind.

She knows her sports as well as she knows her make-up.

An old soul and the definition of talent.

A dog lover, food lover, bag lover and champagne lover (runs in the family).

She is my sister, the blonde one, and it’s her birthday today!

So raise your glass and give it up for one of the six loves of my life!

SHALLOW SOPH: Do more of what makes you happy.

happy96 copyIf you have been following my FB Page, you already know that I am a “one quote a day” kind of gal. I’m pretty picky when it comes to the words (and images) I choose for inspiration. I always stay away from the sappy love phrases, the ones with the tacky plastic rose background, the “Keep calm” stuff, the cheesy, optimistic, cliché sayings and the ones with a bad font (Comic Sans and Lucida Handdwriting come to mind). But as picky as I usually am, I also like to look at the fun and cheery side of things (with that touch of sarcasm that always comes in handy). That’s how I came up with my new series of illustrations, Shallow Soph, a vain but funny way to twist someone else’s words with a very pink and pretty sketch.

“Do more of what makes you happy”.

I’m sure the author of this quote meant something like this: Laugh a lot! Be with the one who makes you smile. Love, live and breathe. Enjoy the little things. Sunsets, hugs and long walks. I could go on forever, but then I’d get bored. Ok, Sensitive Sophie would enjoy that, but Shallow Soph, she has a different idea. What makes Shallow Soph happy? A new wardrobe, Hermes and Chanel. Productive but guilt-free shopping trips. Cocktail dresses and sparkly shoes. A comfy bed in a pink room, a glass of Champagne (ok, the whole bottle) and some fudge (lots of fudge, Mr. Stanley’s Luxury All Butter fudge).

Love, live and breathe? More like shop, eat and drink!

Sweet kisses…

Just another day at the office…

I am happily and willingly stranded in a little piece of heaven called Acapulco, that explains my 8-day absence. After a long and cruel European winter and my big move back home, my corpse-like skin (poor thing didn’t see the sun in over 8 months) desperately needed the sea and the sun. Trust me, it hasn’t been easy to have my body understand that I am no vampire and that 7 months ago I was walking the fine line between a tanned Barbie and a Jersey guido (I have developed all sorts of rashes and sun allergies that one can possibly imagine). Anyway, I will get back my normal, non “Casper the friendly ghost” skin tone while soaking up the beautiful Acapulco sun!

Oh and just so you know, I’m wearing lots of sunscreen.

It’s almost Friday, hang in there!

Sweet kisses…

Another year, another candle’s burning…

make a wish

It’s that day of the year again, the day where I age and everyone congratulates me for it. The Peter Pan in me doesn’t like it and apparently, neither does the weather: It’s pouring outside and it’s really, really cold on what should’ve been a beautiful Spring day. But me, I have learned to love it. Hold on, I love my birthday, the aging part not so much. I know I’ll age someday and I’ll do it gracefully… with botox and fillers on my side.

This past year I have made mistakes, I have lived, I have loved and will keep on loving, I’ve had rough patches, I’ve had great days, I’ve found myself and my true calling and even though it wasn’t a stellar year, I’ve learned, I’ve learned a lot. I start this new one with a smile on my face, a glass of wine (or several bottles), an obscene pasta bowl and a big-ass slice of cake, with a blank and shiny page in the book of my life. Today I start a new chapter, a beautiful one.

So raise your glasses with me (imagine one if don’t have one) and let’s toast, to birthdays and new beginnings. To family and love. Don’t worry forehead, we won’t be toasting to botox and fillers just yet!

And to my mommy, if you are reading this, here’s to you, my rock and the one beautiful thing that has kept me afloat.

Happy birthday and sweet kisses to me!
