DREAM A LITTLE DREAM: Little house in Provence

provence96.1Sophie (the paper version of myself) has many dreams. Some (or most) of her dreams have something to do with France: The Paris apartment, the 2.55 (and the Birkin, and the Antigona, and the YSL Cabas), freshly baked baguettes (who needs Croissant when you can have a whole thin loaf of French bread… every day),  a life of market hopping, cafe hopping and wine bar hopping and the list goes on. In that francophile bucket list, there is one dream in particular. One dream Sophie (and me) have been feeding with movies and books about ex-pats in France (We have read almost every memoir available on Amazon) for a long time: A Summer (or every Summer) in Provence. The quiet life seems so appealing when you live in one of the most hectic (but always charming) cities in the world. The plan?

Pack a bag with sundresses, shorts, books, paper and art supply.

Grab the dog and leave for a month, maybe more.

Rent a car (even tough we don’t do highway driving) and a little house (with Wi-fi).

Do some gardening (even though we are terrified of insects).

Buy countless cases of wine and fresh bread.

Drink the wine (we are really good at that).

Eat the bread (while it’s hot).

Enjoy the view, enjoy ourselves.

This, my friends, tops our bucket list. What tops yours?

La Reine

Oh, how I love my doodles! If you have been reading me for a while, you probably have noticed that theme wallpapers are really my thing. It all started one day, after hours and hours of creative block, I read somewhere that doodling on a notepad was a way of breaking the “dry brain” spell. And so I began with a face, then a pair of shoes, then a Chanel bag and so on. That’s when it hit me: The doodles were very Parisian and they looked so good together. So I scanned my scribbles and I started repeating them on a blank Photoshop canvas, creating a print. After the Lady Doodles, I came up with the beach theme, then Audrey Hepburn and many more!

Today I have one that’s very close to my heart, the Marie Antoinette doodle. You may hate her, you may love her, but she’s had a strong influence in my artistic style. As a teenager, I favored dark clothes, metal music, dog spikes and random piercings in random body parts. Then the magic happened. Like Cinderella, I blame it on a pair of pink shoes but also on Sophia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. Those two things turned me into the pastel-obsessed Francophile I am today. Devoting a doodle wallpaper to her was something I just had to do and I hope you love the result as much as I did making this print.

Have a lovely weekend! Sweet kisses…

Dream a little dream: L’appartement

appart96

This is how I, a self-confessed francophile, a macaron-loving walking cliché and a Paris café junkie, have always envisioned myself: In a two-bedroom corner apartment in the mind-boggling City of Light, balcony with iron railing flowers and a view included. The idea didn’t come after my first visit to the French capital and no, I didn’t stand in front of the Eiffel Tower and just blurted out “This is where I wanna live someday”. No, it didn’t happen after the two-episode Sex & the City finale, although I am planning to recreate the Carrie’s ladybug skirt look next time I’m there.

It has been a long road, my affair with Paris. It started courting me, it romanced me, it seduced me and of course, left me wanting more and more. So much more, that I have devoured all the expats in Paris memoirs for sale in Amazon, I have a drawer with the following label: “French movies/Movies in Paris/Movies about Paris”, I have French decor boards on Pinterest and I read blogs, expat blogs that feed my obsession and make me feel a little bit part of their wonderful world. I AM A FRANCOPHILE AND I’M NOT ASHAMED!

And the dream apartment? The one I drew? That’s exactly how I see it in my dreams. Mint and pink, classic French decor, cushions with my initials, lots of light, baroque mirrors, chandeliers, fresh peonies, fashion books for my gold painted coffee table and the nude Chanel 2.55 wouldn’t hurt. Me wearing the Dior bow scarf with a mint bustier while drinking champagne while doing absolutely nothing? That was part of my visions too, I promise! A girl can dream, right? Wait till you see my closet!

From Paris (my imaginary Paris, for the moment), bisous…
